Draining intensity: Week 18 – WWE Characterisation project

Cargill pathetic

Written by

Hello reader! I’m afraid to say this week is another short one, as Rollins and Cargill continue to occupy very little screen time. Hopefully business will pick up soon, but for now let’s get to it.

Jade Cargill – SmackDown

For the second straight week, Cargill only appears in a short backstage skit. I use the word ‘skit’ deliberately here, as the unlikely buddies comedy angle of Bliss/Flair/Paxley is the main focus. Cargill is actually in the background of this shot, and only delivers one line, which amounts to less words than her friends. Therefore, her usual high-status and centring within her group are not visible. The intensity and physical dominance that we’ve seen her character display in previous weeks are also not present. It’s hard to say the themes of revenge, jealousy and anger are still raging between Cargill and Flair given they share the same space here without almost no visible signs of tension.

Seth Rollins – Raw

Sorry, I do feel guilty about this, but as I continue to stick to my guns in relation to the significance of Rollins’ absence, I am only going to offer a link to last week’s column. As I said above, hopefully Rollins will return very soon with a new, interesting angle for me to analyse.

Until then, thank you for reading!
